You can further strengthen online security whenever you transact with the following practices:
Install and routinely update your anti-virus software
Your personal computer requires robust virus detection software that blocks infected emails. Besides damaging and/or destroying your data, certain viruses and malicious programmes can capture your password keystrokes and other personal information, and send them to a third party without your consent.
You should install the most updated version of any anti-virus and anti-Trojan software.
Other precautionary measures also include deleting any emails with suspicious titles or from unknown sources without opening them, and enabling your anti-virus software at all times.
Install a personal firewall
A firewall is designed primarily to prevent hackers from gaining access into your personal data. While most office computers have firewalls installed, it is your home computer that remains vulnerable, especially if it is running on a broadband connection.
Always do a proper log-off
Develop the practice of logging off your online session, each time you leave your computer unattended, even if it is for a short while. This will end your online session and prevent any unauthorised transactions.
Do not simply exit by closing the browser window as you cannot be certain that your online session is terminated properly. Always click on the "Logoff" button to exit.
For your personal computer, you can also set a password protection to your screen saver, which will be automatically activated after a period of inactivity.
Clear your browser's cache and history after each session
Temporary files, stored in your computer, are known as cache files. These files retain a history of the information and data you have previously accessed. Always remember to clear your browser's cache and history after each session so that your access records are removed. This is especially important if you are using a publicly-accessed computer.
This is how you can clear your cache memory and history for the following browsers:

- Click "General"

Update your browsers
Always ensure that you have the latest upgraded browsers and application software to support the latest encryption standard that has the most updated security features.
Avoid sharing personal computers
Do not access your personal information from shared computers either in public places or cyber cafes. As you are not aware of the malicious programmes that might be installed on these computers, always use a computer that you trust.
If you have to access your personal information using a shared computer, always log off from your online session and clear your browser cache after each session.
Always authenticate the website you are visiting
You should confirm that the website and the pages you are accessing are legitimate.
To verify that you have entered a secure SGX / CDP webpage, do:
- check that the URL for your online transactional website changes from http:// to https://;
- double click on the security icon (the symbol is either that of a lock or key), which appears at the bottom status bar of the browser. This allows you to check on the certificate details for the website;
- compare the URL and SGX's / CDP's name in the digital certificate to authenticate the website.
Protect critical data
Do make it a point to regularly back-up your critical data, and that your data is adequately protected.
Check your transaction history regularly
Always make it a point to check your transaction history, as this will inform you of any unauthorised transaction. If you suspect any unauthorised or unusual activities in your account, please change your I-PIN online immediately and notify us at 6535 7511.
